DEWA is responsible for the supply management of local electricity and tap water and regularly conducts international bidding for power equipment using in the region every year. Covering a total area of 21,000 square meters, the last exhibition attracted 715 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions including the gulf region, Germany, France, Poland, Britain, Italy, China, Taiwan, Italy and South Korea and more than 15,000 visitors. The Chinese exhibiting area was nearly 1,000 square meters and 30% of Chinese enterprises expressed that they were very satisfied with the exhibition results and would continue to participate in the exhibition.
Market Background:
The Middle East is severely short of water, with per capita available water (1,200 cubic meters) much lower than that of the world average (7,000 cubic meters), but at the same time, the UAE and other gulf oil producing countries are the world’s largest consumers of water and electricity due to the hot climate, expanding industrial scale and massive state subsidies on water and electricity consumption.
According to statistics, the UAE currently has a total of 30 desalination plants, with annual production capacity of 300 million cubic meters, which can meet more than 90% of the country’s domestic and industrial water need, ranking second only next to Saudi Arabia in the world.
According to the International Monetary Fund, countries in the Middle East invested 120 billion US dollars in power projects from 2008 to 2012. Currently, the annual growth rate of electricity in the region (10%) is twice that of the global annual growth rate (4%). In 2008 electricity usage in the UAE grew by 19% and electricity consumption grew by 15% year-on-year. Its energy consumption is expected to triple by 2020.
