Favourable ecological conditions, climate and water resources make Turkey one of the world’s strongest agriculture players. Consequencetly, Turkey enjoys a leading role in almost all mayjor agriculture product sub-sectors
-World’s 8th largest agricultural economy
-Nearly 1/3rd of the country’s total area consists of arable land.
-Ranks among world’s first 5 in the production of over 20 crops; and exports more than 1.530 different agricultural produce to 177 countries, are all evidence to its eminence as a global player.
- Turkey’s agricultural production is equivalent to 40% and 20% of EU-25 production of fruits and vegetables respectively.
-Turkey is the largest producer and exporter of agricultural products in the Middle East and North Africa(MENA) region. Total market size is estimated to be more than US$30 billion.
-Turkey’s agricultural imports from the EU has increased by 25%, which shows that despite being an exporter country, Turkey is an important export market for EU countires.
-Agriculture and livesstock sector has been Turkey’s largest employer and a major contribution to the country’s GDP, exports and industrial growth.
-The South Eastern Anatolia Project(GAP) is Turkey’s largest regional development scheme seeking to make the region a major world exporter of agricultural products with close proximity to Middle East markets worth an estimated US$200 billion. It already hosts 50% of Turkey’s cotton prduction.

Mersin is located in southeast mediterranean coast of Turkey and the city links west to The Southestern Anatolia Project(GAP) and Middle East with its huge oppurtunities in agricultural investment and potential. Mersin as a region, has around 20% of the total agricultural production of Turkey. Mersin has also ranked in the top 10 city of Turkey’s agricultural potential for investment and exportation. Production capacity of about 36 million tons of fruit and vegetables in a year that has allowed to Turkey to gain one of most important exporters of all Europe. Furthermore MERSIN FREE TRADE ZONE is in the 4th rank with its 2.2 billion USD trade volume in Turkey.
